Timeline for Facebook Brand Pages: What is your plan?

The timeline has arrived to Facebook brand pages. As of March 30, all will be converted to the new format. That, of course, means that the time to plan for it is now. The good news is that you can start now building your timeline without publishing it while still working from the old design. When you are ready to publish, hit publish and the old design will disappear.

Here is a great overview with tips for changing your page.

This includes the New York Times Facebook page which is featuring highlights of the newspaper’s history throughout the timeline. Here at the San Jose Mercury News, look for our history of Silicon Valley coming soon on our Facebook page. At the Bay Area News Group, Chris Wagnon is experimenting with posting panoramic photos of each of the communities covered by the newspaper facebook pages he oversees.

Tell me your ideas for your brand pages.

I think a good idea would be taking full advantage of the Timeline’s cover picture and use panoramic and iconic photos of the local community the publication covers. For example a wide shot of Telegraph Street for the Berkeley Voice. I can also see rotating panoramic photos of major news events the publication is covering.
